Welcome to the Verde Campus Learning Center

Below is a Jing that I created last fall for faculty Welcome Back Night. It introduced faculty to the resources available from our Learning Center. During the presentation, I requested that the faculty put the link to the recorded Jing in their syllabus. This was a clever way to market our Learning Center to not only our faculty, but also to our students. A bit like a symbiotic relationship.

The second screencast was also created in JING. It was created to inform faculty, students, staff and other learning center directors what our learning center was doing to create resources for online assistance. It too can be shared by listing the url address in a syllabus or linked to another Blog or website.

LInk to the Nursing Modules

Here is a link to the power point modules that will demystify calculations for your nursing students. Many, many thanks to our VLC tutor JoAnn Glick for her expertise and creativity.

A WIKI for TUTORS!

Now, you may be asking yourself...How can this help me!
Here is how it works.

A wiki allows a group of people to see, share and edit information. Tutors in our Learning Center needed a place to be able to quickly find information on their subject area, especially if they were working with someone using SKYPE in realtime online.

I created the wikitutor-resources for tutors by setting up one page per academic subject. Then I had tutors in those subject areas post some of their fav resources. Finally, I invited faculty, staff and all of the tutors to join. The was easily accomplished by using the *management tool* in the wiki program. I simply when to the proper place and typed in email addresses. An invitation to join the wiki was sent within seconds!

Here is the link so that you can view this wiki. You will not be able to add or delete anything because one must be invited in order to do so. Very cool, especially, if you worry about loosing control in the virtual world!

VERDE LEARNING CENTER COMMUNITY MURAL

Bringing Community into the college.

During the Spring semester of 2009, the Verde Learning Center reached out to the community asking for participation in the design and creation of the patio mural. This art project, facilitated by local muralists Joan Bourque and Sally Cross, brought students, faculty, staff and community members together to create a wonderful study environment for our campus Learning Center.

SKYPE

SKYPE is a program the allows you to talk and (if you have a camera) see the person on the other computer.

Here is a link to download SKYPE (pronounced skipe) for free:

We have SKYPE available in the Verde Learning Center. Students can SKYPE a tutor during regular center hours. Here is a mock video recording of a session. It will demonstrate how SKYPE looks:
